Juan Ernesto Velásquez is a guitarist, composer, and musician born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. His compositions contain varied sound textures with a chromatic spectrum of tonal nuances that dialogue with different moods. His music has deep roots in Latin America but with a global outlook that leads him to mix elements of flamenco guitar, popular music, jazz, ambient, and influences from different corners of the planet, unleashing experimental soundscapes and instrumental journeys that range from colorful tropics to the burning sub-Saharan sands passing through the enthusiasm of the unstoppable city noise. His first album, "Música Para Ver Las Nubes" is an autobiographical journey inspired by the eclectic contrast between nature and urban chaos in his native Caracas, his harmonies, melodies, and improvisations result from an intertwined set of acoustic, electroacoustic, and electric guitars mixed with field recordings, mouth harp, oud, bells, and singing bowls. "Música Para Ver Las Nubes" is an album of sound images to do something as simple as watching the movement of clouds across mountains, seas, and cities to experience our existence. With more than 25 years of a musical career, Juan has had the guidance of Venezuelan jazz figures Pedro Barboza, Alvaro Falcón, and Gerry Weil, former mentors who have marked his curiosity and interest in fusing different musical aspects throughout his career. As a prominent performer, he has participated and collaborated in the production and recordings of his albums Todos Somos Los Amos del Valle, Los Amos del Valle Y su Corotera, and Desalojo Jazz Project Wayne Shorter a la Venezolana.
